Minimal Gnome desktop installation of Debian Etch Linux 4.0r0 (current "stable" distribution). Basic tools, browser and package manager are the only installed applications. This appliance is intended to be used for working with Windows and Debian Linux side by side. To accomplish this it is prepared for setting up networking between host and guest via CIFS or SMBFS. Workstation users can alternatively use the Shared Folders feature, because the newest VMware Tools are fully installed. There is a homepage with detailed explanations of these and other things including a Getting Started section for Windows users wanting to have a first look at Linux. If the host is online the appliance is ready to install software choosing from almost 19000 free packages of the Debian repositories. Debian rocks! All passwords, a complete documentation of the installation process, a readme file, and everything else you need is included in the zip file.
